I'm losing great candidates! What is happening with the job market?

What is the state of hiring in Silicon Valley? It’s a question I hear every day. Well, it could be better; we are dealing with competing offers and outrageous demands from candidates who have been ghosting for weeks on end! We came out of the blocks at full force last month when there were more open positions than any other January since 15 years ago – but another wave hit just this past week that caught everyone off guard yet again. What does all this mean to you as an employer or job seeker? Right now, your best bet is to take some time before committing yourself too early….

The recent halt of COVID-19 has had a significant impact on the global economy. With businesses no longer fully operational and trade between nations disrupted, inventories are at an all time low and some companies have gone bankrupt due to their inability to remain profitable in this environment. However, light is finally beginning to shine as many large corporations will soon be able with vaccines for COVID-19 making it possible for them reestablish international supply chains leading up to increased inventory levels within 3 months. This means that retailers can start selling again increasing employment rates which should result in more people having access economic opportunities until disruption from future pandemics occur down the road

Companies are opening new roles and reopening previously delayed positions – so effectively trying to fill 2 years’ worth of open requisitions RIGHT NOW.
This is leading candidates fielding multiple offers, which drives salaries up. In addition, local candidates being courted by coastal companies with higher salary ranges for remote positions -which also has an impact on the job seeker’s perceived value- a trend that could be seen as “a boon” or detrimental depending on what side you’re looking at it from!

You know the old saying “you never get a second chance to make a first impression?” Well, it applies doubly so in today’s job market. In order to attract and hire talent you need for your team now, here are some things that will help: define who you’re looking for up front; plan out what your hiring process is going to be like ahead of time with all interviewers involved before posting an open role; when identifying someone worthwhile- lay out their agenda from start (and finish) so they can see exactly where this opportunity fits into their life as well.

When it comes to hiring, transparency is key. Here’s how you can ensure that your candidates are being honest with you by creating an environment of trust and honesty during the interview process:
-Be transparent about your company culture
-Explain what they need from them in the position before interviewing any more people for a specific role

Feedback is crucial to the success of your interview process. Make sure that you offer feedback immediately after each candidate’s interview in order to keep them informed on whether they have been successful or not so far with their interviews, and what next steps may be required. Not only will this make it more likely for candidates to stay interested during subsequent interviews (should you choose) but also ensure that there are no misunderstandings as a result of long periods between conversations- otherwise known as “silence.”
Frequently, good candidates receive 2-3 calls per day from recruiters; silence can quickly become dangerous if left unaddressed! Negotiate wisely–if an applicant has other opportunities available then let them know about those options first before

The year may be winding down, but the search for talent is still high in many industries! With a competitive job market and shrinking labor force – it can feel overwhelming.
